Fraser MacLean at DOJ-CON!

Exciting news for all you die hard animation fans, Fraser MacLean is a last minute confirmed guest speaker at DOJ-CON! Make sure to pick up a copy of his book “Setting the Scene” and bring it along for a chat and a signature from this awesome gent!

The result of 3 and a half years’ work, interviewing artists and technicians, exploring archives and visiting animation studios from London to Los Angeles and from New York to Tokyo, “Setting The Scene” explores the history and development of the art and techniques of animation layout, from the rice paper drawings of Winsor McCay and John Fitzsimmons, through to the digital cityscapes of Pixar’s “Wall-E” and DreamWorks Animation’s “Monsters vs Aliens”. “So how come there’s no Anime in it….?” you ask….. Well – come along and hear author and industry veteran, Fraser MacLean, explain his way out of that question – and many others. Following his presentation about the book, Fraser will also be fielding questions (if there are any…) about his chequered professional past, from the torment of the talking conrete owls in “The Animals of Farthingwood” to the mysteries of the Burger King Kids’ Club treehouse hideaway, via “Space Jam” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”.

Boring Rules and Regs post

Hi guys,

We just want to make sure everyone’s aware of the slight shifts in our rules for the day that have happened in the past couple of weeks, please take the time to have a look over the following in case it applies to you.

As stated on the event page:¬†http://www.facebook.com/events/446581382089546/?fref=ts¬†The whole event will be open to the public, however, if you are 14 years old or younger you must be accompanied by a responsible adult in order to enter the premises during the day(12pm- about 8pm). A “responsible adult” does not necessarily have to be a parent but must be someone aged 18 or over who is mature enough to not leave children in their care un-attended. The suitability of accompanying adults will be judged by Union staff at the doors of the event.

There isn’t an exact¬†threshold¬†for when under 18s are not allowed on the premises any longer, The Union will not close from 12pm until 2:30am but we estimate the games and masquerade/ cosplay competition/raffle will finish up before or around 8pm at which point the only active venues will become The Liar (which will also begin to serve alcohol and operate as normal so will become a licensed premises) and Air (licensed area where the acoustic performance/ karaoke night will take place).

During the day (12pm- around 8pm/ end of gaming) The Liar WILL NOT serve alcohol. Soft drinks and food will be available.

Alcohol WILL be served in Air throughout the day, photo ID will be required to enter the premises but anyone drinking will not be permitted to leave the area with their drink.

The after party (10:30pm-2:30am) will be open to the public and only to people aged 18 or over. ID will be checked when tickets are purchased in advance AND on the door. If tickets are reserved online prior to the event the print out ticket must be presented at the door and your ID will be checked along with this.

Tickets for the after party are £5 in advance from Premier shop (at the entrance of the Union), any DOJ-CON volunteers or Union staff on the day or prior and online: http://theunion.fatsoma.com/events/84264/ (there is a 75p booking fee for tickets booked online, please be sure to print out the relevant document along with your purchase and bring it with you to gain access to the after party, you will be required to show photo ID, electronic ticket reservation will close at 6:30pm on 13th April)

Tickets bought on the door for the after party will cost £6.

There are no tickets required to attend the day time event.

Hopefully this will help everyone be prepared and have a lovely day!
